A song of congratulation to China on the New Year.
I wish you prosperity, prosperity to you my country, China, in the career that lies before you. The glory of your civilisation grows daily greater, you the first of all the nations of the world to emerge from barbarism. The little peoples of Europe what are they but spiders. We children of the Emperor "Hin Yuen" are of the holy stock, bravest of the brave. It is New Year today and all nature smiles upon us. The flowers display their loveliness, the birds make melody, and everywhere is life renewed. The sun and moon, and the nine-storied heavens renew their courses: and China rejoices in the renewal of her youth. How splendid, how wise is our Emperor, and he still is young in years! When once he grasps the reins of Government, men will see how he honours the valiant and brave. How great his love, his longsuffering, his pity towards us his children. May many a day be added to his tale of years which is kept in the caverns of the sea. I think the time draws near, when we shall have representative Government. Many are the brave sons that the Celestial Kingdom leaves. May her 400,000,000 children join in promoting the cause of righteousness, and may the Emperor and his people unite as one man to forward our cause. Then will China rise to new prosperity, and live again. What need to fear the storms of Europe, the blasts of America, and their strange imaginings. We are now more than ever called upon to wash clean our shame, and avenge us on our enemies, expanding our borders. The allied yellow races will then display their overwhelming might. These are no empty words of praise. Wait and see how valiantly China will proceed along the road that lies open before her.
